Let’s Play DOTA 2

Posted in Games by

As promised, here’s my DOTA 2 character, Krobelus, The Death Prophet. She is a mid hero and also a good pusher with her ultimate. DOTA 2 has been in Beta for quite a while and you can only join with an invite, which you can sign up for here. As I did with Annie (LoL), I will show forth my build and a few tips for playing this hero, which in my opinion is the best. <3 Hehh.

Meet Krobelus, The Death Prophet

Lore

Krobelus was a Death Prophet–which is one way of saying she told fortunes for a price, but only for the noblest and wealthiest of those who wished to look beyond the veil. After years of inquiring on behalf of others, she began to seek her own fortune. More and more often she gazed into the face of death to see if it knew her, and what it might have in mind. For her clients, who wished to know not only their living fate but what awaited them beyond life’s exit, no price was too great to pay, and she passed along to them the cost of her investigations. But the ultimate price, her life, proved insufficient. Death disgorged her again and again, always holding back its deepest mysteries; and in her soul the greatest of jealousies grew. Others could die for eternity–why not she? Why must she be cast back on the shores of life with such tiresome regularity? What was it that haunted the realm of death, unknowable, yet so set against Krobelus that she could not prove herself worthy of the one thing all other living creatures took for granted? Still, she would not be discouraged. After flinging herself into the abyss times beyond counting, she began to make some headway. A minuscule shred of her substance, she believed, was lost to the grave and replaced with the faintest whiff of ectoplasm. She gave a little of her life with every demise. Did this mean that the end was in sight? Could Krobelus win this war of self-attrition? With her dedication to death redoubled, and no client other than herself, she threw herself ever more fervently through death’s doors, intent on fulfilling the one prophecy that eluded her: That someday Death Prophet too would be no more.

Abilities

CRYPT SWARM

Start off with Crypt Swarm, a long ranged ability that damages enemies in a cone area. I usually try and level it up as quick as possible. Here’s a video from the DOTA 2 blog.

SILENCE

If you’re in mid and up against an opponent that just loves to spam their abilities or easily stuns you, I suggest you learn Silence early on in the game. End-game, Silence is very useful in team battles. It silences any enemy within the targeted area (the circled target gets bigger every time you level it) from using an ability for 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 seconds (per level). It is also extremely helpful when trying to flee from an incoming gank or if you’re low on hp.

WITCHCRAFT

I like to level up Crypt Swarm and Witchcraft first. Witchcraft is a Passive ability which increases movement speed 4% / 8% / 12% / 16%, decreases mana cost 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 and cooldown 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 and adds spirits to your ultimate  3 / 4 / 5 / 6.

EXORCISM

Last but not least is Exorcism. This is Death Prophet’s ultimate ability. Krobelus releases evil spirits that attack enemies, dealing 45 damage each. It’s always a good idea to focus on just one enemy when using this ability. As mentioned before, maxing out Witchcraft will give you a total of 6 spirits + 4 / 12 / 21 (levels 6/11/16). This ultimate is also good for pushing turrets, especially end-game, when you have it maxed out + Witchcraft. I had a blast dealing a lot of damage to Roshan with this ultimate in the recently closed Halloween Event.

Items

For my item build, I focus on strength; although a really good thing to do is also to gather items that focus on intelligence and her mana pool, making it possible for her to spam Cryptic Swarm (4 sec cooldown on max Witchcraft). I don’t have a build for intelligence+mana, but I’ll work on it and edit it into this post.

I gotta say, if built right she can be a beast; especially 1v1 with her ultimate or pushing lanes. The best thing about her is her dialogue. Gotta love when she unleashes her ultimate: “Go my beautiful ladies, go!” Among others. HoN (Heroes of Newerth) have a similar character to Death Prophet named Defiler. I’ve played her and she has the same attacks as Krobelus, though I never really got into HoN. I’ve only stuck to League of Legends and DOTA 2 for now. For those of you out there, I’ll be posting my Steam name below; this has been a quick overview of my Death Prophet for DOTA 2. Enjoy!
